Swag curtains add decoration and function to your windows

The term swag refers to the manner in which curtains or drapery is pulled to the sides of the window midway in their length. A hook and a draw back tie are secured to the window frame and then the tie is looped around the swag curtains. When reattached to the side of the window the ties pull the curtain open half way down leaving the top joined and the bottoms hanging freely. When the ties are released the curtains can close for complete privacy. The type if ties used to hold back the swag curtains very greatly from simple rope to decorative tassels and beading. These are often an important part of the room décor and may match beading and other decorations through out the room.

If you look at examples of where decorators have used swag curtains you will often find them used with a sheer liner. In the daytime when the swags are pulled back the liner will still offer some restrictions while allowing the sun to shine in. The kitchen is a room where swag curtains can be found with regularity. Many people like the look of these curtains covering the bottom half of their windows with a small ruffle header on the top. This leaves the windows fairly open in a room that does not normally require much privacy. Kitchen swags are very easy to sew and may be created from your own personal choice of material and colors.
