Bring a tropical feel into your home with bamboo blinds on the windows

Most people associate the sight of bamboo with hot sunny weather and relaxation. Bamboo not only grows in hot climates but it is used as a building material for furniture and other basic household needs. Bamboo blinds are made from very young and thin strips of bamboo. Sometimes these strips are attached vertically together much like Venetian blinds. Another method of producing bamboo blinds is to weave the young strips together into a solid sheet. This makes the blinds less flexible but very effective against the sun and the heat. The bamboo blinds made with vertical strips can be rolled easily and held at the top of the window until needed.

Bamboo blinds can often be found in use on the exterior of homes or in patio areas. They may be found indoors in a very casual setting but are not as aesthetically pleasing as other indoor window treatments may be. Used outdoors they provide an insulating shield protecting the interior from overheating and too much glare. Small amounts of light can penetrate the spaces between the bamboo strips creating a shadowed cool effect in the room on the hottest days of the year. In less tropical climates they are often used on outdoor patios to provide privacy in urban areas.

Installation of most bamboo blinds does not include a rod. They are often just fitted with O rings on the top strip that can then be secured to simple hooks on the wall. The top strip of bamboo is thicker than the others adding a secure anchor for this simple installation.
