Curtains are not much use without the suitable curtain rods

Curtains are not much use to us without the proper curtain rods to support them while they hang and to house the hardware needed to open and close them. Some are as simple as a large solid round dowel that rings are slid onto. Others can be far more complicated housing hardware and the workings for the pulley systems used to operate the curtains. Some sets are multi layered calling for curtain rods to work in unison movement. Mounting the rod on the wall properly and securely is especially important when you are hanging multi-layered or heavy curtains. Without secure anchoring they will pull from their mounts from the weight of the curtains.

Most retail and online stores that sell curtains will also be able to provide you with curtain rods. They will be able to recommend the correct rod for you needs and give you hints on how to properly secure them before you hang your curtains. When the rod is up and you are ready to hang your curtains you will usually need some small hooks that will secure the curtains to the rod. These will often come with the rod when your purchase it. If not they can be bought as needed at the same store.

When curtain rods are installed in a new home or building they usually do not need to be replaced unless you change the style of the curtains you want to hang. So if you are moving into a different home you should check to see what type of rod is there and what type of curtains it will support.
