Celebrate the Beauty and Timelessness of Unique Pieces of History Wallcovering

New Wallcoverings Collection Uncovers Hidden Treasures From 16th 17th and 18th centuries

American homes are filled with antiques and objects of historical character reflecting a love of the past and the styles that have withstood the test of time. Raymond Waites has captured these classic looks in Vintage Documents, his new wallcovering collection for Imperial.

“I’ve scoured the stalls of flea markets from East Hampton, Long Island to Marche Aux Puces in Paris, the forerunner of all flea markets, to unearth treasures that was the start of my vintage wallcoverings,” said Waites, who also designed Vintage Luxe for Imperial. “This collection is a combination of classic interiors, textures and elegant, rich vintage florals and is the most romantic approach I have taken in my vintage style to date.”

The patterns are luxurious yet comfortable providing looks that fit into a formal or casual setting. Today’s homes are a blend of motifs where relaxed living takes place in all rooms, no matter what the décor, but Vintage Documents will put a definitive touch to any interior.

“The richness of the colors and the classic designs in Vintage Documents make a strong statement,” said Carolyn Resar, vice president of marketing and design for Imperial Home Decor Group. “These are images of another time and era and admired and cherished for centuries. It’s natural they would add a dramatic dimension to a room.”

One of the motifs –Biblioteca is wooden shelves holding volumes of Hamlet, Les Miserables, Passage to India, Leaves of Grass and other great works of literature. At quick glance you feel like you’ve entered a library. Dames Et Monsieurs is a fashion story with figures of royalty in tiles – sultans, queens, emperors - circa 1760, dressed to the nines. Empire shawl is another design taken from royalty. French country is a tapestry document and Pompadour is a damask with stripe. The designer’s love of architecture shows in Classical Finials –a collection of finials that resemble the tops of grand structures found all over the world.

“Raymond has also taken country gingham and added roosters surrounded by wreaths of flowers to enhance and revitalize an ordinary document, “said Resar. “He’s also included vintage plaids in this collection but the colorways he uses such as lacquer, nutmeg and gooseberry, add a very unusual look to a rather familiar design.”

As is classic Waites, there is a cheetah print, an animal scenic from the South Seas and several vintage florals including Bloomsbury, Lyon (circa 1600) and Les Roses de Loire. All of the patterns in Vintage Documents come in a variety of colors reminiscent of nature and of natural materials such as rouge, antique, platinum, obsidian, maize, khaki and butter.

The collection includes Biblioteca, Empire Shawl and Lyon borders and an Afrique border featuring jungle animals amid columns and posts.
