DAVID HARDEN PAYS HOMAGE TO HIS BELOVED HOMETOWN IN FOLK ART NATURE WALLPAPER BY DAVID

DAVID HARDEN PAYS HOMAGE TO HIS BELOVED HOMETOWN IN FOLK ART NATURE WALLPAPER BY DAVID

David Harden, the self-taught primitive artist behind Imperial’s ‘Folk Art by David’ wallcovering collection, was born in rural Ohio and draws his inspiration from the rolling hills and peaceful scenery of his hometown. His early years were spent on farms, and this childhood experience helped to shape his style, which has been described as “simplistic” and “down home.”

A few of his favorite images that are depicted in his nature wallcovering designs are tall whimsical cats adorned with bow ties and necklaces, starry night skies, sheep covered with American flag blankets, quaint scenes of homes atop grassy covered slopes, snowmen, and fruit – pineapples, pears and apples.

“These are images that make it possible to have some fun with the art,” said Harden, who lives in Chillicothe, Ohio, just 15 miles from his birthplace of Waverly. “They are based on fond memories of a part of Ohio that I absolutely love.”

Just turning the pages of Imperial’s Folk Art collection will bring a smile to anyone’s face as the artist’s interpretation of country life is both charming and whimsical.

“Imperial Home Decor Group is thrilled to introduce David Harden’s first wallcoverings collection,” said Carolyn Resar, vice president of marketing and design for IHDG. “No matter what the subject, the finished product is always painted in the warm tones and distressing David has become known for. The sheer warmth and love that is conveyed by his art will help to create a very cozy home.”

Although Folk Art is his first wallpaper collection, David’s work has been licensed through many national companies such as Cass Woodworking, Evermore Candles, ESC Trading, Raghu Exim Trades, Legacy Publishing Group, Paula’s Primitive Rugs and Roland Flag Company.

He began painting on his grandfather’s farm on scraps of boards he found lying around. The idea of “antique wood” fits his style, and today he uses a series of steps to give his work the illusion of age.

His folk art collection brings a clean and understated twist to traditional country designs and offers an array of borders in many sizes. One border is 27 inches high depicting David, Mary, Arthur and Elaine – four rather charming and cool cats. Two smaller borders - Angels Gather Here and God Shed His Grace, and a 20 inch My Home Towne border – all depict the sleepy picturesque village inspired by the artist’s hometown.

Coordinating sidewalls include traditional stripes and plaids, stars and moons, crackle sky texture, and willow trees, which is also the subject of the American Willow Mural. This mural has four 18” wide panels are 8 ft. high and will transform an ordinary foyer, informal kitchen or dining area into rooms with a stylish Folk Art theme.
